GAMES FEATURED BY
Have You Ever Wondered How Some People Make Games Full Time?
Aren't their games just super viral?
Not necessarily! My games Pinstripe and Neversong weren't particularly viral, yet brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars in income for my family.
Maybe they're just brilliant artists?
Nah, that's not it. Some games, like Thomas Was Alone, are as basic as it comes!
Maybe it's because of college!
Of-course, this isn't true either. Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale, got a degree in environmental science, not game dev!
Maybe it's just easy for some people...
Game dev isn't easy. Not at all. It takes a ton of hard work and dedication.
The Game Devs That Go Full Time Know How To Actually Sell A Game
What I'm about to share with you, I've learned over the course of 15 years of making indie games. With my understanding of not only creating indie games to selling them to publishers, game platforms, and the Steam front page, you're going to learn what it takes to make and sell indie games from your bedroom.
Obviously, I can't make any promises, but I can show you what a real indie developer in the trenches making commercial games is doing, and how you can do it too.
I Know Exactly How You Feel...
I spent almost a decade making and quitting games as a hobby. Half the time I had no idea what I was doing, and the other half of the time I simply just felt silly for even trying.
Before I'd go to my 9-5 desk job, I'd wake up early and try and make my dream game. When I'd get home, I'd continue working into the night, all the while feeling embarrassed that I couldn't seem to let go of this silly dream from childhood.
And trust me — I remember the looks my friends would give me when I'd tell them what I was working on instead of going to the football game, or going out for drinks. Perhaps you know that look... that sympathy smile...
"Oh, that poor thing. He's trying to make a video game."
Then I Realized Something...
One day, while working at my desk job, I received an email from a budding new indie game publisher. They'd seen a social media post of my "silly" game I'd been working on for four years. It was called Pinstripe. They hadn't released any games yet, but offered to publish it for a significant amount of money. It was actually enough money to quit my desk job.
At first I thought it was must be a scam. But after a quick call with the publisher... suddenly it all clicked.
Was I Dreaming?
Because of this single phone call, I was paid by the publisher within a month. I put in my two weeks notice, and began working in my home office finishing my indie game full time. Was I dreaming?
Not at all...
After another year of development, and another $100,000 raised on Kickstarter, I was shocked to find the game brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars before and after launch on Steam, even though the game wasn't particularly viral, and even got a 5/10 from GameSpot.
$1,000,000+ In Funding & Sales (Before & After Release)
Fast forward to today: I'm blessed to have my non-viral games Pinstripe and Neversong featured by TIME Magazine, Kataku, The Game Grumps, and JackSepticEye.
Apple Arcade even purchased my game Neversong for limited time exclusivity!
My current game Twisted Tower is being published by my dream publisher, 3D Realms.
My games have grossed over a million dollars in funding and sales, almost half of that coming in before I even finished them!
The Answer Is In Plain Site... But Most Devs Don't See It
It saddened me, though, to see so many talented game developers struggle to make any money on their beautiful games. Even worse, most of them would quit their games because... well frankly, making a game in your spare time with little income to show for it is very draining, and it can't go on forever.
Even sadder, hundreds of game developers on my YouTube channel were looking for direction, asking me if I'd show them how to make money from their games, but I didn't have a resource to give them.
So many game dev courses were confusing, focused on the wrong things, and frankly were taught by game dev wannabes, not actual indie game devs in the trenches making money from their games.
So I decided to do something about it...
